After receiving his doctoral degree in Epidemiology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health in 1993, Dr. Graviss joined the Michael DeBakey Houston VA Medical Center in Houston as an infectious disease epidemiologist. He became a Research Instructor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 1994, and was later promoted to dual Associate Professorships there in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine in the section of Infectious Diseases, where he still holds adjunct positions. Dr. Graviss joined the Center for Molecular and Translational Human Infectious Diseases Research in the Houston Methodist Research Institute in 2008. Dr. Graviss holds several other joint adjunct positions including; Associate Professorships at the UT School of Public Health and the Division of the Health Sciences, the School of Biotechnology, and Health Tecnolóico de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico. In 2015, Dr. Graviss became a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America. 

 

Research interests

Dr. Graviss has extensive expertise in the study of the epidemiology and population-based surveillance of a variety of infectious agents including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. His recent studies focus on evaluation of the new Interferon Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) in the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection. In addition, Dr. Graviss has an interest in outcomes resarch and has performed extensive biostatistical and epidemiologic analyses for the HMH Department of Surgery and JC Walter Jr. Transplant Center.
