Abstract
Variation in human reproductive function may result from a change in the pituitary gland secretion of prolactin. Dopamine is a catecholamine released by the hypothalamus that inhibits the secretion of prolactin by the pituitary gland. Dopamine receptor agonists such as bromocriptine and cabergoline may be prescribed to treat reproductive disorders associated with hyperprolactinemia. Dosages and routes of administration of dopamine agonists for therapy of reproductive disorders are discussed. Alternatives to dopamine agonist therapy also are mentioned.
