Following his postdoctoral training, Dr. Gateno joined the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas as an Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. While at UT, he also held an appointment at Baylor College of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Gateno is currently Co-Director of the Texas Cleft Craniofacial Team at UT, and was appointed Chair of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital.
Research interests
Dr. Gateno is a world leader in computer assisted planning for corrective oral and facial maxillary surgery. He and his collaborator, Dr. James Xia, hold a number of patents in this area, have had consistent funding for their research from both private and Federal sources, and have set the standards in the field both nationally and internationally.
