Dr. Shen is a general surgical pathologist with subspecialty interest in genitourinary pathology. After completing his residency training in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology and fellowship training in Surgical Pathology, Dr. Shen became an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine (2002-2003) before joining the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital in 2004. In 2005 he joined the Weill Medical College faculty and is a Full Member of the Research Institute.

Dr. Shen is a general surgical pathologist with strong subspecialty expertise in genitourinary cancers. He is currently the Medical Director of the Immunohistochemistry Lab and Associate Director of Surgical Pathology at the Houston Methodist Hospital. He is co-editor of three books and has authored nearly 100 peer reviewed articles, primarily in the areas of diagnostic pathology and genitourinary tumors.

Research interests

Dr. Shen’s research involves identifying morphologic and molecular abnormalities of neoplasm and correlating these with diagnosis, prognosis, and in some instances, future treatment. He is involved in independent and collaborative studies using conventional histomorphologic techniques, immunohistochemical methods, tissue microarray, and new molecular methods to study cancers of the kidney, urinary bladder, and prostate.
