Abstract

This self-directed learning module highlights advances in the rehabilitation of general musculoskeletal and soft tissue disorders. It is a section of the chapter on rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and soft tissue disorders for the Self-Directed Medical Knowledge Program Study Guide for practitioners and trainees in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This section contains information regarding physiatric evaluation and management of infections, metabolic bone diseases, bone tumors, burns, chronic pain, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, myofascial pain, prepartum and postpartum disorders, and traumatic myositis ossificans. The topics are unrelated, yet each is important in the practice of physical medicine and rehabilitation. The learner is also directed to detailed information on these topics through selected references.
