Abstract

A postbuckling problem of continuous suspension bridges which are used for carrying pipelines is investigated. These are continuous over several bridge towers with pin connections at their base. A geometrically non-linear analysis using the finite element method is performed to study the postbuckling behaviour under increasing loads (for instance by filling up the pipelines with fluid). Two examples are presented which investigate the aspect ratios of constructed continuous suspension bridges.
