Abstract
A recently developed theory of the influence of fluid flow on the plasticity of porous media is applied to an axially symmetric punch problem. The porous medium is taken to be a Coulomb plastic and fluid is assumed to flow through the punch into the porous material. Effective stresses under the punch, the punch force, and the plastic slip-line field are computed in terms of the fluid pressure. Besides showing an application of the theory, this example problem could lead to experimental verification of the theory and might provide insight into more practical problems related to drilling in porous rock.
