Abstract

The genus Bifidobacterium is one of five genera within the family Bifidobacteriaceae, in turn, one of two families in the order Bifidobacteriales. Members of this phylum are Gram-positive are important members of the commensal microbiome of the gastrointestinal tract, vagina and oral and several have been shown to possess probiotic properties.
