Broadening of the resistive transition in polycrystalline Bi/Pb-2223

Abstract

Polycrystalline samples of the Bi/Pb-2223 superconductor were prepared by solid-state synthesis of oxides and carbonates. Powders were pelletized and hot pressed. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the samples were composed of an almost pure Bi/Pb-2223 phase. The planar sizes of the grains were about 10 μm and a mean thickness of about 0.5 μm was determined by electron microscopy. The resistivity was measured by a four-probe method and temperature stabilization was about 0.03 K. A magnetic field of up to 4 T was applied perpendicular to the current direction.
