Abstract

To the Editor: Although we agree with Porter et al., in their study in the March 16 issue of the Journal, that hypercalciuria may be troublesome during the treatment of hypoparathyroidism with vitamin D and its metabolites, our recent experience suggests that adjunctive thiazide therapy does not invariably reduce urinary calcium or vitamin D requirements. A 14-year-old boy with hypoparathyroidism as part of the familial candida endocrinopathy syndrome has shown resistance to conventional doses of vitamin D and to 1:25-dihydroxyvitamin D.
