Abstract
Combining drugs to treat patients with heart disease is common. It is important to assess this practice with respect to sound principles of therapeutics and review what has become a complicated and challenging practice, combining drugs to treat heart failure. The purpose of this review is to consider the philosophy of polypharmacy in heart failure and formulate specific recommendations regarding the creation of a rational pharmacologic approach to these patients.
