Abstract

To the Editor: We have studied plasma and urinary cyclic AMP in patients with familial Mediterranean fever and the ability of colchicine to abolish fever or diminish its severity in most patients in about three hours. In 41 patients with this disorder without renal disease, creatinine clearance (mean ± S.E.M.) was 125±6.5 liters per day (range, 100 to 153) between episodes of fever and 121±5.5 (range, 100 to 140) during fever. Ten healthy subjects and nine patients with acute bacterial peritonitis served as controls. Plasma and urinary cyclic nucleotides were measured by radioimmunoassay (Table 1). Plasma cyclic AMP, plasma cyclic.
