Abstract
Successful self-management of diabetes includes making many daily behavioral decisions. However, a significant number of people with diabetes have above-target glycemic levels. This problem is in part due to difficulty with engagement in self-management behaviors. In this chapter, we review the current evidence and discuss opportunities for developing behavioral interventions supported by digital technologies. We discuss the role of behavioral theories in guiding the design of digital interventions and propose research directions for the development of new technologies that could enable new forms of personalized interventions.
