Abstract
“The reality is if you don’t understand business practices, you can’t survive in today’s market. You will no longer be practicing medicine and providing the care to the patient that you went to medical school to treat.” As a result of lowered reimbursements and rising overhead costs, urologists are looking for methods and techniques to become more efficient and more productive. One opportunity for all urologists is to improve their efficiency by treating various urologic diseases and conditions in the office instead of in the hospital. This chapter will discuss how to prepare the patient for your visit before the patient enters the practice and the importance of creating a good first impression, managing the patient once they are in the practice, the advantages of utilizing a scribe as well as using a physician’s assistant and nurse practitioner effectively in your practice and how to continue the encounter after the patient completes their visit. With the use of videos, you can educate patients with exactly the message you want them to receive. We are challenged to be more efficient with every patient encounter, by using a scribe, having an excellent receptionist, and utilizing videos, you can enhance the efficiency of your practice.
