Evaluation of Intracardiac Filling Pressures

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The assessment of intracardiac filling pressures is fundamental for establishing the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction, for differentiating dyspnea of cardiac origin from other etiologies, and for guiding management of patient symptoms. In this chapter, we review traditionally established and novel Doppler echocardiographic methods used for the assessment of intracardiac filling pressures. We discuss their applicability and limitations in different clinical scenarios, as well as the fundamental principles that support their implementation.
