Abstract

We investigate crack forerunning and bridging with numerical models on three different structures. Bridging is observed in a heterogeneous saturated lattice model in quasi-static conditions under fluid injection.Asingle episode of forerunning in a dry double beam in dynamics confirms that forerunning increases the overall crack tip advancement speed with respect to a steady-state behaviour and finally we showon a two-dimensional specimen that in presence of a fluid forerunning increases the overall advancement speed even more.
