Abstract
Compaction in gas reservoirs is analysed here in terms of mechanics of partially saturated soils, where capillary effects are of importance. An elasto-plastic model is used for this purpose and a new subsidence mechanism is shown, which does not appear in traditional subsidence models based on decrease of reservoir pressure only.
