Abstract

Chronic renal failure (CRF) patients have disease-specific nutritional requirements and deficiencies. Traditional nutritional supplements are difficult to use in this population because of the nature of the disease process. A new nutritional supplement developed specifically for renal patients has been studied in a population of predialysis CRF patients. This article reports the results for blood levels of vitamins and minerals added to this new supplement in one patient from the study. The patient was supplemented for 1 month and blood levels for both serum and red blood cell folic acid as well as pyridoxine increased significantly. Gastrointestinal tolerance of the product was excellent.
