Abstract

Intramedullary spinal cord tumors (IMSCTs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors whose diagnosis and treatment vary substantially depending on the specific tumor histology, size, location within the spinal cord, and the patient’s neurological status. Primary treatment for most of these tumors consists of surgical resection or open biopsy followed by adjuvant therapy. In this chapter we review the workup, surgical options, surgical implications, and treatment outcomes for the most common intramedullary tumors.
