Abstract
Typical bismuth inclusions were produced in rabbit kidney tubular cells. Histochemical examination of tissue fixed in 10% buffered neutral formalin and of fresh frozen tissue suggests that the inclusion consists of a lipid-carbohydrate-protein complex. In addition, the inclusions were obtained in a relatively pure state by ultracentrifugation and ultrasonic disintegration of kidney homogenate. Microchemical analysis of the pure inclusion fraction failed to reveal the presence of bismuth and furthers the argument that the body is a lipid-carbohydrate-protein structure.
