Abstract
The Japanese traditional medicine Kampo is gaining popularity worldwide because of evidence-based research findings and standardization. Kampo, which is an herb-based system of medicine, has been used to treat several diseases, including hypertension-related disorders, gastrointestinal inflammation, and heart failure. This chapter is aimed at describing the therapeutic effects of Kampo medicine as a remedial measure for hypertension-related disorders. In addition, we define the uses of Kampo medicines such as shichimotsukokato, orengedokuto, keishibukuryogan, the Apiaceae family including Angelica sinensis and Apium graveolens, baicalin from Scutellaria baicalensis, and saikokaryukotsuboreito, which have been shown to have beneficial effects against complications of hypertension. In conclusion, Kampo medicine continues to advance even further and could be incorporated into health care taking into account its beneficial effects.
