Abstract

Medial claviculectomy is an alternative option for thoracic outlet decompression. Claviculectomy provides exceptional exposure of the subclavian vein resulting in excellent reported outcomes for decompression and resolution of symptoms related to symptomatic venous thoracic outlet (VTOS) and dialysis associated VTOS. Therefore, medial claviculectomy is a very viable surgical alternative for this particular patient population. Cosmetic results may not be quite as satisfactory as the transaxillary first rib resection, but functional outcomes remains good and there are minimal reported post-operative deficits.
