Abstract

Palatal tremor (PT), also known as palatal myoclonus (PM), involves involuntary rhythmic contracture of the soft palate. The tensor veli palatine or levator veli palitini are involved and tensor veli palatine contraction can results in auditory clicks. PT can be idiopathic or secondary to lesions in the Guillain-Mollaret triangle. The radiographic hallmark of symptomatic PT is enlargement of the inferior olivary nucleus. Patients with symptomatic PT can develop extrapalatal rhythmic myoclonic movements and generalized ataxia.
