Abstract

To the Editor: In the November 12 issue Terman et al. concluded that when plasma from patients with breast cancer was perfused over purified protein A immobilized in a collodion-charcoal matrix and subsequently reinfused, a partial remission was induced in three of five patients.1 We report below our results in the same field. Five patients presenting with breast adenocarcinoma associated with metastatic lesions in bone or liver or both were treated five to 10 times with plasma perfusion over a column of silica covalently linked to 200 mg of purified protein A.
