Abstract

The polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in fibers embedded in ribbons are theoretically and experimentally investigated to determine birefringence on the fiber position in the ribbon. Experimental evidence shows that fibers in ribbons can be affected by systematic stress birefringence, whose source is the coating shared by the fibers in the same ribbon.
