Abstract

Uremia is a clinical syndrome with a wide range of signs and symptoms. It arises with advanced kidney failure and is characterized by the accumulation of numerous organic chemicals that would normally be cleared by healthy kidneys. Despite an ever-expending catalog of retained chemicals, or uremic solutes, a fundamental understanding of the fundamental cause(s) of uremia remains elusive.
