Abstract

The specific goals of the present theory are: to facilitate understanding the relationships between physiologically measureable pressures (coronary artery, coronary vein, the ventricular cavity) and flows (coronary artery, coronary vein); to demonstrate a sufficient degree of predictability under a variety of physiological conditions; and to suggest where it may be fruitful to make further measurements. Preliminary results indicate that the inflow is essentially uncoupled from the outflow due to a large compliance centered at the capillary portion of the cross network. The regional outflow can also be computed from the Windkessel provided corrections are made for the distributed effects of collapse on the venous side of the cross network.
