N2 - A large private insurer and Medicare in the United States was queried to evaluate the risk of postarthroscopic hip infection in patients who had preoperative injections. A 3-month threshold was established, showing a significant risk of postoperative infection (2.2% [odds ratio 6.1; P <.001] for private insured patients and 2.8% [odds ratio 2.0; P =.04] for Medicare patients) if performed within 3 months of surgery (vs controls not undergoing a preoperative injection).
