In addition to serving as Professor of Pathology & Genomic Medicine with Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Texas A & M University, Dr. Suzanne Powell directs the Pathology residency program at Houston Methodist Hospital. Her previous teaching experience has included ranks as assistant professorship at the University of Florida and Baylor College of Medicine, where she received the Outstanding Resident Teaching Award in Anatomic Pathology. Active in pathology research, Dr. Powell is the Co-Director (with Greg N. Fuller, MD, PhD, at MD Anderson) of the Houston Methodist/MD Anderson Neuropathology Fellowship Program which also includes activities at Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. J. Clay Goodman serves as the site Director for the BCM activities of the fellowship program. She has served as Chair of PRODS Council and the Residency Review Committee for Pathology of the ACGME, as a member of the working groups for the development of Milestones for Pathology and most recently for Milestones in Neuropathology. She was recently appointed as member of the Neuropathology Test Development Committee of the American Board of Pathology and is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy (USCAP) Board of Directors.
Research interests
Dr. Powell's area of expertise is neuropathology. Her research interests are clinically based, and focus on dementia and neurodegenerative disease. She serves as the diagnostic neuropathologist for the Baylor College of Medicine Alzheimer´s Disease Center.
